9.22-23.07: Seattle - San Diego

Even though the schedule has been hectic, I don't think I've ever been on a tour with so many restful nights.

I'm not up thinking about philosophical problems (what is reality, problem of evil, you know just some light thinking for bedtime), or crying in my bunk about being away from home (you know, your own loving family and beautiful home). Instead, I'm getting up before sunrise to go to my favorite place in the world: the airport! All the wonderful people, the clean toilets, the lost luggage, the friendly security guards throwing out brand new tubes of tooth paste, hell yeah! What else could I ask for?

Seattle 9.22.07
9:00 a.m. - wake up in an industrial wasteland.
10:30 a.m. - photo shoot.
1:00 p.m. - breakfast at a local Greek dinner.
2:00 p.m. - phone interview
3:00 p.m. - usually time for soundcheck, but there's none today so I walk around in circles in the parking lot.
5:00 p.m. - go to hotel to shower
6:30 p.m. - radio interview at EndFest.
8:00 p.m. - write a new song
10:30 p.m. - crew loads-in
11:00 p.m. - scheduled show time.
11:30 p.m. - re-scheduled show time
11:45 p.m. - waiting around in dressing room, wondering why it's taking so long.
12:00 a.m. or so - finally go on without a soundcheck, which definitely affected me, couldn't hear very well.
1:00 a.m. - finish set.
1:15 a.m. - talk to fans outside.
2:00 a.m. - go to bed.
4:30 a.m. - wake up at airport.
6:00 a.m. - fly to Sacramento
9:00 a.m. - fly to San Diego

San Diego 9.23.07
11:00 a.m. - rent cars and load gear
11:45 a.m. - drive to venue
12:30 p.m. - arrive to a very disorganized festival in Chula Vista; none of our gear (drums, rhodes, etc.) was there, start asking other bands to help: Album Leaf, Switchfoot, Sha-na-na. Thanks again guys!
1:00 p.m. - two video interviews (me and Darren)
2:00 p.m. - eat bad catering
3:00 p.m. - set up to play set, still without everything, namely, no marching drum.
4:15 p.m. - go to a meet-and-greet signing. The SoCal sun and awesome fans made me feel better after a hard show.
5:45 p.m. - another meet-and-greet.
6:30 p.m. - leave for In-N-Out Burger.
7:30 p.m. - get to hotel.
8:15 p.m. - get to room; why does this take so long? There needs to be a special qualifications test for people doing this job.
10:00 p.m. - finally, fall asleep.
6:00 a.m. - wake up to go to the airport to do it all over again!

Digg!

Loretta WHY are you always the first to comment??
just kidding

Roy I am so excited to see the photos from the photo shoot in Seattle. I love new MM pics.

My Dad came to the Victoria show and was blown away. He bought 2 cds and now loves you guys. I'm jealous b/c he gets to go to your Hollywood show! NOT FAIR!! I think it is hilarious I got my Dad to be a MM Fan. So cool.

Keep having restful nights because we can't have you burning out!

Hey, I got first post once. I'm not sure how it happened, but I felt blessed and honored just the same. :)

As for the rest of the blog... I'm confused. Was there any point in it where there was no sarcasm? I started out happy for you, then it got to the airport part where it was definitely sarcastic which made me wonder if I dropped the ball on the first part.

The last part made me sad and yet was quite interesting to see your schedule. Kind of makes a girl want to rethink her music career plans.

I didn't think you guys flew so much -- thought you mainly did the bus thing. I also didn't know they threw out toothpaste, unless maybe it wasn't in a plastic baggy. But then why wouldn't it be in a plastic baggy?

:/

Anyway, assuming you really were happy in the first part (I'm going for the silver lining tonight), I'm glad. As for the rest of it, sorry. I'm flying down to see you guys in a month or so. So, if I see you in the airport, I'll try to not be an evil airport person and maybe will buy you a fresh tube of toothpaste. Maybe even some floss if I'm feeling festive... Heh.

(Unless fans coming up to you annoys you, in which case I'll do my best to ignore you.) (But no toothpaste in that scenario... Just something to consider.)

:D

I'm not ALWAYS!!

I'm just in the kitchen, making a pot of chili. . . at the computer working on my invitations for my spa party this weekend and helping the twiins with their homework.

You make it sound so appealing. ;) LOL

Wow, the Seattle show started really late. Most of the shows are over before that one even started. Sounds like a very hectic day.

Is Sha Na Na the really old band? I mean they were around when I was much, much younger - like when I was in High School. O.K. I actually looked them up to see if it was the same group and I think there are three original members. I know some of the newer guys could not have possibly been around for Woodstock. LOL I had no idea they were still a group. That's soooo cool. You guys have one thing in common with them for sure -- energy on stage. I've never seen Sha Na Na live, though, just on film. Apparently they are nice, too. So there's something else you would have in common (aside from the obvious things like you both play music.) LOL

Such a short stay in my home town (Sacramento) although, not so short if you are waiting between flights, as I suspect.

I had a most interesting day, promoting your tour here in SLC. I hope it pays off.

I hope all the sound check and equipment works well for the LA show on Thursday! Weather should be great down here then.

Roy,

I recently was forced to "donate" and entire unopened bottle of Mountain Dew by TSA officials. Try and remember: If you get to keep your toothpaste, the terrorists win. I know the thought helped me as I paid $2 for a can of Diet Coke on the plane.

I say you boycot the tsa and airport security by refusing to brush your teeth. Then maybe they'll think twice next time about throwing away perfectly good toothpaste!

>>"If you get to keep your toothpaste, the terrorists win."

{laughing hysterically} I need that on a t-shirt. <:D

I know... It might be true, but it still sounds like a bad conclusion from a Logic proof, doesn't it?

The terrorists win... If everyone else is treated like a terrorist. Every tooth paste freedom that is taken from a free person is a terrorist triumph. Sensibility... or paranoia? Who knows? We are all live'n in fear trading freedom for false security. Mean while Rock n' Roll is delayed at the airport.... Tragic!

The schedule rocks! I am glad you posted it! What a fun forum for expression!
