Update 2019: Solo album, Bass course, Elektro Kids, & more

Hello my friend, welcome to a new year! 

2018 was full of lots of positive and exciting changes for me and my family, and these things will continue into 2019. 

Here's a quick highlight update:

1. RMC Solo album: I've had the idea of doing a solo record for years, and it's slowly coming together. I've been working with a producer friend of mine Dan Brigham on a new instrumental project. It's all things groove, vibe, and bass.

2. RMC Bass Methodology: I was a music educator long before I joined Mutemath 2005, and it's something I've enjoyed doing and developed for many years. I currently teach privately in Nashville, TN and via Skype, but quite some time, I've been wanting to create my own personalized bass course that explains my methodology in a concise and systematic fashion. Well, it's in the works. Announcements will be made soon.

3. Elektro Kids, LLC: another passion of mine has been creating songs with my kids. Elektro Kids, LLC grew out of this fun way for my family and I to learn new things together. The mission of Elektro Kids is to educate kids with music in fun and positive ways about as many cultures as possible. Please check out the YouTube page and www.elektrokids.com for more info.

4. Sessions, Sample Fuzz Audio, The Pink Dust, and more: I've also been doing other things, such as bass and guitar sessions in Nashville, co-writing and co-producing sessions, and building Sample Fuzz Audio libraries (although this has slowed down considerably). I'm happy to announce that my first electric bass sample library called SF'78 P-BASS is complete and due to be released on my birthday JULY 25!

Let me tell you a bit about the library: it was recorded with my mocha 1978 Precision Fender electric bass (using Ernie Ball flatwound strings). This library is truly the flagship pack for Sample Fuzz Audio because it is full of vibey tones and gritty inspiration to help you compose, produce, or just plain jam with.

It contains 141 unique loops (ranging from 65 - 205bpm in every key); one-shots of every note on my p-bass (including varieties of finger, pick, legato, staccato, amp, clean, etc.) to build your own sample instruments; and a special section with an extra 49 loops of fully effected loops; what I like to call INSPIRATO! Sounds come in both WAV & REX files (728.6MB).

Leaving Touring Life Behind...

Hola MUTEMATH amigos!

Many of you know that family is everything to me. I view my role as being a father and husband as top priority in my life. Perhaps, many of you do not realize that I have been a "touring father" for the last 9 years. As you can imagine, trying to balance touring life with my parental duties for my three beautiful children has always been a massive challenge for me. Now, I have reached a point in my life that I cannot continue to make the huge sacrifices that come from being away from my family for long periods of time on the road: from missing important birthdays and family events to being absent from school performances and kids' sports practices just to name a few examples. Quite simply, I just need (and want) to be present for when those closest to me need me.

So, I have decided to stop touring. I will not be performing at future MUTEMATH shows starting May 6, 2017. I imagine there will be opportunities in the distant future to join the guys on stage here or there, and I hope to be involved in future albums. However, it is time for me to step away from touring life and be there 100% for my family. I will continue to make music but centered around my home life here in Nashville.

I want you to know that I'm forever grateful for the past 12 years of touring. Thank you for buying tickets; for taking the effort and time to come out to the shows (sometimes traveling long distances); for standing and waiting in lines; for helping create an energetic atmosphere and inspiring me to perform and play my best; and for all the other things that involve going to see a band do their thing. I feel very fortunate to have been a part of many amazing musical experiences and to have played all around the world to some of the best music admirers in the world. Thank you for making that possible.

Thank you for making many of my dreams come true.

We are so beyond thankful to have toured, made music and gotten to share a significant portion of our lives with Roy. From jamming for the first time in the back room at his aunt's house in New Orleans east to traveling the world. He has left an indelible mark on MUTEMATH, and while we support him fully, we will miss him greatly as well. He contributed immensely to our upcoming record, and of course will remain a great friend. In his stead, our long-time collaborator and friend Jonathan Allen will be joining us on the road. Thank you Roy!

Summer 2014

Lots has happened since my last post. Where to begin?

MUTEMATH: the 4th album is being worked on slowly but surely. A couple of trips to Los Angeles, Nashville, and Texas have helped the whole process along but it still remains to be seen when it will all be finished. I will be joining the guys in Texas soon to work on it some more. We just had a show in Savannah, GA. Thanks to Chris O'Connell for the pic below.

PLASTIC PLANETS: we had a cool show in Orlando at the House of Blues, but unfortunately, that was my last show for a while. However, Jeff & Eric will continue with a tour this summer but I will not be there as for my commitments to MUTEMATH. Look out for it.

NEW PROJECTS: I have a new studio production coming out called THE PINK DUST. I'm very stoked about it. Keep an ear out!

PERSONAL: my 5-year-old son just celebrated his kindergarten graduation; my 2-year-old son broke his right forearm but is recovering perfectly; and my 1-year-old daughter is singing every song from Frozen note for note. I've never felt so overwhelmed in my life, haha...

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Orlando and Miami PLASTIC PLANETS shows... I had a great time and hope to do some more events in the near future.

Happy New Year! I hope 2014 brings lots of joy and love to people all over the world. It seems like for most people 2013 was not the greatest of years. Personally, I can count the significant good things that happen in 2013 on one hand, namely the birth of my daughter Stella Mar, but there were a lot of rough times, times I'd rather forget and move on... I'm thankful I've made it through those difficult moments and that now, I have a healthy, beautiful family. So, VAMOS 2014! Let's go 2014!

Day Trotter Session

The day of the San Fran show was a long, long day. First of all, I started to come down with something the night before I flew into San Francisco, CA from Miami (6 hour flight); my flight departed at 8:35AM (which means I LEFT my house at 6:15AM EST-3:15AM PST); I landed in San Fran around noon (12PM PST); took a cab to the Day Trotter session at a small studio off of Market Street called Paradiso; did the session in a few hours-not having eaten because airlines are so cheap now and there was no food at the sesh; headed back to the venue to eat something finally around 4PM, then did soundcheck; did an interview; gathered myself for about an hour; met the developers of Apple's Logic 9, which was cool and interesting; played our 2 hour 15 minutes show; as I was performing, I felt my body breaking down further into sickness; so, I excused myself from the after-show meet & greet (the only one I've missed so far); and took some meds and went straight to bed nearly by 2AM (PST)... Even though we were all exhausted that day, I'm glad we pulled through it. And, I'm happy to get to do what I love in playing music. This is not a complaint, just an example of what some days on tour are like. Plus, I'm happy that this Day Trotter session came out nice. It's a cool thing to be involved in. Thanks for listening.
